For another assignment I have been advised to create a future career plan. For this I chose something to do with either Radio or music, both of wish i find entertaining to work in, with my practice I have put in at college.

For this assignment the research required me to scan for a job advert, to do with my career choice, and to find a required path to take if I wish to make this my profession.

For an assignment I have been advised to research about research itself and about a BAFTA nominated short film. I have managed to get the email address of the production company to whom the director of the short film is working for. I contacted the production company, who have gave my email address to the director of the short film I chose. This is a good example of a primary research source.

Unfortunatly the director hasn’t contacted me yet.

I think that the film that is probably going to win the Academy Award for best film of 2009 is Avatar, however I think that the film that should win is District 9, as I thought it was an extremly original and thoughtful piece of cinema, and should be rewarded because of this.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is defined as “The use of someone else’s work without proper acknowledgement.”[1] It is basically copying someones work without permission to use it. This is a crime, and can lead to being legally prosecuted. This can be solved by referencing other peoples work that you might find during research. This can be done by footnotes or bibliographies[2], which state where the source of the information is, and who produced the original information. This means that anyone who reads the work which has used the original information can check the original source, for more information regarding the topic. Many people make sure they can prove that work is their own, so that the cases cannot be turned around and made to look like they have copied work. This is done through copyrighting material, with the date it was copyrighted proving when the material was produced. You cannot be sent to prison for plagiarism, but you can be sued, because it is still a prosecutable crime.

[2] A bibliography is something which lists all the sources that are used in a document, they are usually used when producing large documents, where a large number of sources are needed. Footnotes are more common when only producing a small document, where a limited number of sources are needed.

File Sharing/Film Piracy

Argument For

The use of file sharing is especially useful when used to a good cause, such as websites like myspace, which are especially popular for unsigned bands looking for promotion, who don’t have any major records available to buy.

Film piracy is good for promotion concerning independent films, becasue the cinemas don’t show the independent films, so people don’t get the chance to watch them. This means the independent film inustry will strugle even more without the use of film sharing.

Here is a quote from an independent film producer to support this point; “Our independent movie had next to no advertising budget and very little going for it until somebody ripped one of the DVD screeners and put the movie online for all to download. After that happened, people were watching it and started posting mostly all positive reviews…People like our movie and are talking about it, all thanks to piracy”

Fandom

The only reason fandom is so important to companies, is so that the companies can make money out of what is important to the public, therefore almost guarenteeing that the thing being produced will receive more income than just producing something out of the blue so to speak.

Personally, the only thing I am passionate about that I wish to see more made from is the “punk” band Green Day. I think a broadcasting company should perhaps consider a TV show, such as the one from the sixties, featuring the band “The Monkees”. This would please me greatly, although this would mean going against all the “punk” values that Green Day supposably possess. This being said, I do not see Green Day as “punk”, well, not as a lifestyle, but I see it as the style of music being played.
